Subtitle Edit is a free downloadable software app developed by Nikolaj Lynge Olsson for editing subtitles. It can be used to edit subtitles for videos in a number of different formats.
The user friendly interface of this software makes it simple for anyone to modify and edit .srt subtitles and convert them to different formats. The program is capable of loading around 200 different types of subtitle files into a convenient dialog box where they can then easily be modified and changed. Videos play in either the VLC media player or DirectShow while you work on the editing process.
The dialog box has two options for showing the subtitles: list view and source view. In list view, you will view dialogue text in two separate columns, while in source view you will view dialogue text in a raw text format.
The built-in editing box in the list view makes this particular option ideal for modifying your subtitles. Some of the options for editing subtitles include changing the timing and synchronization, as well as actually editing the text of the dialog itself.
Some of the additional features and options available in Subtitle Edit are: spell checker, translation to other languages, additional lines, editing for the hearing impaired, auto back-up, saved memory of last nine loaded and some configuration of the program's appearance.
The program is designed for users of all skill levels, so pretty much anyone can use this software to quickly and easily edit subtitles for whatever video project they have in mind. It's a really great free piece of software.
